Our Favorite Things

May 28th, 2005 by Laura in Food

Okay, guys. Let’s start a list of the places we REALLY LOVE, just so we have something to consult when someone asks, “what was that place we went to with the really good _____”

1. Gateway to India:
Food we can all eat, plus CJ is a really good sport when we descend upon his establishment. Seems to be our new “default” location (better by a mile than the late, unlamented Flakey Jake’s, although more expensive, too. You get what you pay for?)

2. Bella Nina:
A nostalgic entry, because it’s been a while, and the last time we were there, the change in tiramisu recipe was even more disappointing than the service. It used to be a pretty darn good place, though.

3. Sushi Tama:
SUSHI! And lots of parking. And they have enough wasabi even for Mikey’s palate…. :)

Okay, your turn! Bring ‘em on!

    Let’s not forget…

    4. From the Bayou.
Top notch Cajun type food, worth every penny.

    5. Engine House No. 9 (Tacoma) and Powerhouse (Puyallup).
Above average tavern food. Crowded and noisy. Can’t get enough of the E-9 soft taco.

    6. Tatanka Take-Out.
Buffalo burgers, burritos, etc. Vegan friendly. Perfect thing to grab on the way to Point Defiance.

    7. Katie Downs.
Specialty: fancy pizzas on the waterfront, good selection of beers. Burgers and big salads too.

    8. East & West Cafe.
I think someone called it “Asian Fusion”, leaning Thai. Everything’s good.

    9. Round Table Pizza.
Sure it’s a chain. But it’s good stuff.

I smell a database. You think?

  • Laura Says:

heck, yeah, a database is a great idea! The ideal one (I know, it will require WORK) would be sortable by the restaurant type of cuisine, and searchable so we can see where we were last and even which places we visit most often. A comments field would be nice, to remind us what we liked and disliked, and maybe even a list of who was there. (although that’s not really necessary.)

    Oh, and we left out

    10. Antique Sandwich Company. Good sandwiches, yummy desserts, and an amusing hippy vibe. Vegan-friendly, and also a good place to pick up food to eat al fresco at Point Defiance.

  • Laura Says:

Ahem. The previous post should read “restaurant and type of cuisine” – I didn’t proofread properly.

    Oh, and let me add

    11. Katie Downs. Non-chain pizza, and quite yummy, although a busy, noisy place that has sports on TV… Maybe best for take-out/pot luck?

  • Laura Says:

    I would also nominate:

    12. And as long as we’re on pizza, I did enjoy Puget Sound Pizza, which ought also to be kept on the “take-out” list because it’s really too small for a group of our size.

    13. Indochine. I loved the garlic concoction I had, but the most fun was watching Berghy and his extremely fresh coconut drink!

(come on folks, we’re falling down on the job, here!)

How about these for some nostalgia:

    14. Pick Quick Drive In. Tasty food and a lot of fresh air!

    15. Famous Dave’s BBQ. Well worth the wait don’t you think?

    16. OUTBACK Steak House. A hard to read the menu but good food.

    17. The GERMAN BISTRO. Very informal.

    18. Mis Tres Amigos! Haven’t been there in a while. How about next Friday?

    19. The OLD SPAGHETTI FACTORY. Okay, so the parking’s not that great.

    20. Coconut Thai on 38th.

I really did enjoy that coconut at Indochine you know!

I better leave some for you folks to add.

  • David Says:

Okay, okay! I omitted a word in # 16. It should have read: A bit hard to read the menu but good food.
